Robert Greenstreet, Ph.D., FRIBA, DPACSA, Dip.Arch (Oxford), FRSA, Int. Assoc. AIA

Robert Greenstreet is an architect, professor and former dean of Dean of the School of Architecture and Urban Planning at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He has also served as Interim Chancellor of the institution. He completed his architectural education at Oxford Brookes University in England where he also earned a Ph.D. focusing on aspects of law and its effect on the built environment.

Dr. Greenstreet trained as an arbitrator in the United Kingdom and was elected an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.  He is also a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.  Since relocating to the United States in 1978, he has practiced as an arbitrator, mediator and expert witness in a wide variety of construction-related cases, and has been a long-term member of the Construction Panel of the American Arbitration Association.

In his professional research, Dr. Greenstreet focuses on the relationship between law and the practice of architecture and he has written over 170 articles and papers, many of which have been presented throughout the United States as well as in Canada, England, Turkey, Spain, Puerto Rico, Denmark, the Czech Republic, France, Portugal, Hong Kong, Italy, Poland, and The Netherlands.  Dr. Greenstreet is also the author or co-author of seven books, including Legal Contractual Procedures for Architects (1st-5th editions), The Architect’s Guide to Law and Practice and Law and Practice for Architects.  He has contributed chapters to twenty other books including The Commericial Way to Justice.  Recent publications, focusing on arbitration, mediation and copyright issues related to design have been featured in The National Law Journal, Wisconsin Civil Trial Journal, Architectural Research Quarterly and Licensed Architect.

In addition to his academic leadership, Dr. Greenstreet has served as President of the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture, the national organization that represents the 150+ Schools of Architecture in the United States and Canada, and more recently as Director of Planning and Design for the City of Milwaukee.  He is also an ACSA Distinguished Professor and has been granted the Freedom of the City of London.

In 2013, Dr. Greenstreet was named the 42nd recipient of the prestigious Topaz Medallion for Excellence in Architectural Education awarded jointly by the American Institute of Architects and the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture, and was awarded The Messenger Prize for Journalistic Excellence by the Milwaukee Bar Association.

In 2017, he was named Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects, one of only 30 elected nationwide.
